Do you consider yourself a DOOR MAT?
by talesin inyou asked for a topic on this , and here it is.. .
i ask ladylee to please comment on this subject.. .
when we choose to lead our lives according to what we consider is 'the right thing to do', that could be a good thing.

a really TRUE Christian wouldn't apologise
by stillin infor not having candy or treats to give the little beggars when they hit him up with "trick or treat?!".
a really true christian would give a tract about satan or the demons, or at least a quick sermon about how much god hates what they are doing.. i, on the other hand, apologised.
my wife is still very active and a heartfelt apology was the best i could do...but it's progress!.

Stillin, I remember the days of hiding in the dark with the outdoor porch light off hoping the kiddies would just pass by the house. It is just so stupid when I look back. There actually are some religious fundies that do hand out anti-hallowe'en tracts (can't remember which crazy bunch) I don't get why people who don't celebrate have to try and ruin for those who do.
BTW Love your costume, maybe slap on a fig leaf so you don't get arrested! LOL Leslie

(hi Rip) Learning to say no and not feeling guilty about it was a HUGE step for me personally. I guess it goes back to the being worried what others will think if we say NO. Leslie

Hi Talesin Excellent topic. I confess I was one of those doormats to the point of what could be termed martyrdom. I felt selfish if I did anything for my own benefit and just could not say no to requests for help because I didn't want to let others down. Part of the problem was my own lack of self esteem that made me do anything to make others like me. I have learned to speak up for myself and have realized that it is not selfish to do what is best for me. True friends will understand and want you to look after your own needs, the others will just use you up until you're of no use to anyone including yourself. Leslie

Good for her. My heart aches for that young woman. It must be almost unbearable for her given they are almost newlyweds. So humiliating, and mentally and emotionally devastating. Leslie

My introduction/experience
by happy@last ini have only just recently found this site, in fact only recently gone online to do research of my own about jws.
before i left i had only gone on my gut instinct, not even realising i was not alone with my feelings.
the week i was appointed an elder some 11 years ago, i had had to write to a congregation many miles away from me about how unloving they were (more details below).. not long after i started to have concerns about jws, expecially as the message of 'following the bibles message' subtly changed to 'follow the fds', this did not sit well with me.

Big Welcome to you Happy@ Last. Thanks for sharing your story. Your letter to the elders was very well written. There is something satisfying about standing up for our personal integrity and not allowing our conscience to be seared by the WT. rules and regulations. Looking forward to hearing more from you. Interesting PoV WT Wizard. Your explanations in this thread clears up a lot. I now get the gist of what you have been trying to say.

Wack Job MIL Thinking Sandy is Another Sign of "THE END"
by LostGeneration ini live nowhere near the east coast, nor does my jw mother in law.
but according to my wife, mommy dearest thinks "sandy" is the latest sign that gawd almighty is about to bring about the end.. so i ask my lovely jw wife what she thinks, amazingly she says its probably just another storm, though it does look bad.
i tell her yes, i agree, and if there is anything we can do to help out, i am willing to help.

I think I stumbled onto the eventual plan for the governing body teaching today.....
by EndofMysteries inon the jw.org site, look at the 2/1/2012 public wt, page 27 of the pdf...section 4"how are jehovah's witnesses organized today".
if anybody noticed, i mentioned i thought that no mention of 'faithful and discreet slave' possibly since 2010 in the public placed wt's.
i've read all of them backtracking to 2/1/2012 so far, and so far, my suspicion has proven true, no mention.

EOM you clarified later that this is only in the public editions of the magazine that they refer to them as elders. That actually makes sense because people on the outside know what is meant by the term elder but would not understand the term faithful and discreet slave. just my 2 cents. Leslie
